Frequently Asked Questions

Are particular corona measures planned for the festival?

There are currently no legal restrictions for events in Berlin. We recommend the usual personal hygiene measures, which are in any case of special importance for sex-positive events.
We ask people with symptoms to stay at home in order to avoid endangering anyone. Otherwise, we assume that all participants of xplore are aware of the risk and will deal with it in a self-responsible manner.

Can I also book only a specific workshop or reserve a place in a desired workshop in advance??

No! Xplore is a festival on various explorations. All workshops, lecutres and experiences are included in the ticket price and it is your decision which events you want to attend. Only the size of the rooms or the requirements of the event leader may limit the capacity of each event. We recommend that you arrive at the respective rooms as early as possible if an event is of particular interest to you. We also encourage all participants to be open to new experiences and to attend as many events as possible to explore the variety of the art of lust.

Do I have to be nude or have sexual interactions?

No! Unless clearly specified in the event description, no event requires nudity. For most workshops, lectures and experiences, comfortable and loose-fitting clothing is appropriate. Although some events use close-to-body practices, sexual contact per se is not a prerequisite for participation in any event. As the festival is designed for adults, we expect all participants to be considerate, self-responsible and to respect the principles of “euphoric consent” and “safer sex” and reserve the right to exclude people from the festival who do not comply or otherwise behave in a reckless or even abusive manner.

What do I get for my money? Is there a timetable for the events?

Purchasing a ticket gives you access to all workshops, lectures and experiences offered at the festival, as well as to the PlaySpaces and the closing play party on Sunday evening. Please note that 5 events will take place at the same time, probably at the following times: 11am – 12:30pm / 1pm – 2:30pm / Lunchbreak / 4pm – 5:30pm / 6pm – 7:30pm / 8pm – 9:30pm. This means you can attend a maximum of 5 events per day. We reserve the right to limit the number of participants at certain events due to the size of the rooms or the requirements of the event leader. As a result, there is no guarantee that you will be able to attend all the events you wish to participate in.

Do I have to actively participate in the events or can I also only watch?

This depends strongly on the content and the prerequisites of the respective event leader. At most events, the presence of silent observers is unproblematic. For some events, this would be rather disruptive or interrupting. The respective event leader will decide accordingly.

Can I bring my own food and drinks with me?

On the festival area various catering options are available to you. A variety of meals, snacks, soft drinks, coffee and wine will be offered – as far as possible in reusable or composable containers. Of course, you are free to bring your own food and drinks. In that case, please also make sure to produce and leave behind as little waste as possible.

What does BDSM mean?

The abbreviation BDSM stands for three pairs of terms that are independent of each other, but nevertheless related: Bondage & Discipline, Dominance & Submission, Sadism & Masochism. BDSM is a collective term that encompasses all consensual, mutually pleasurable sexual acts between adults that involve dominant-submissive role-play, physical restraints or playing with pain thresholds.

Is there a dress code?

There is only a fixed dress code during the closing play party: elegant/sexy/kinky/fetish. There is no dress code during the rest of the festival. Although we hope that the tolerant and open-minded atmosphere of the festival will encourage you to wear unusual and interesting clothing, you are of course free to come in whatever you feel comfortable in.

Is there an age limit? Can I bring my children?

You must be 18+ years old to purchase a festival ticket. All festival events are open to adults of all ages.

It all seems to be about “sex techniques” – where is the love?

We believe that sex, like most other things in life, should only be practiced with love. But a little more technique doesn’t hurt either.

Are there workshops in which only women or only men can participate?

No, all workshops are open to all people.

So is this a gay, lesbian or heterosexual event?

In putting together the event leaders and the programme, we have tried to avoid the usual divisions in order to create a broad offer that is geared towards unique people with different sexual identities and orientations.

What does xplore have to do with dance?

xplore presents techniques and rituals that are related to dance in that they use the body as the central medium. Conventional dance techniques often avoid sexuality, even while working with sexual energy. Successful dance is brilliant and radiant. It is convincing when a coherent interplay of emotion and form refers to something of a higher plane, often described by the adjectives “magical”, “inspired” or “universal”. You could also call it “sexy”. The techniques offered by xplore focus on the sexual body. They consist mostly of practical exercises which require unity of form and emotion. The movement events that result can, by all means, be experienced as dance and observed as choreography.

I don’t have a partner – can I participate nevertheless?

Yes. For events that require partner exercises, the event leader will manage the composition and distribution of the group.
